Rail Low Fare Shopping Modifiers

A number of modifiers can be added to a Low Fare Shopping request to narrow the search results for Rail segments. There are two types of modifiers that can be used:

• Search Modifiers, which modify the availability parameters of a rail request.

• Pricing Modifiers, which modify the fare parameters of a rail request.

Note: The Low Fare Shopping request is used for both air and rail searches. Some modifiers that are available in the Low Fare Shopping request do not apply to rail searches and are ignored in the rail search request.

Rail Search Modifiers

Search Modifier	Description
Connecting Cities	Also known as Via/Not Via routes. Specifies permitted or excluded IATA city and airport codes as connection points.
Journey Type	Allows journeys to be requested by journey type, which includes specifying non-stop or direct journeys, or a permitted number of stops.
Maximum Solutions	Limits the number of journey solutions returned in the response.
Preferred Suppliers	Searches for a preferred rail distributor.
Date and Time	Earliest and latest time can be specified, but time windows are not supported.
Providers	Specifies providers to be included or excluded. Note: RCS is currently the only Rail provider. However, Low Fare Shopping calls can also support one or more Air providers.

 

Rail Pricing Modifiers

Pricing Modifier	Description
Passenger Type Codes	Requests Low Fare Shopping using any passenger type code (PTC), with or without age.
Cabin Class	Client can send preferred or permitted cabin class.
Refund Type	Specifies whether or not to return fares that are refundable or that have a penalty if changed.
Discount Cards	Depending on the supplier, discount cards are supported at the passenger or itinerary level.

Unsupported Modifiers

Many of the Low Fare Shopping modifiers that are supported for Air segments are NOT supported for Rail segments. If a request includes an unsupported modifier, a warning is returned for Rail segments: Search/Pricing modifier(s) may not be supported by rail distributor.

The following Low Fare Shopping modifiers are not supported for Rail segments:

• Flexible shopping (i.e., search multiple origins/destinations, multiple departure/arrival times, by distance/weekends, extra days)

• Time window

• Ticket type (e-ticketing)

• Public fares only

• Private fares only

• Agency private fares only

• Airline private fares only

• Public and private fares

• Account code

• Contract code

• No minimum/maximum stay

• No advance purchase

• Plating carrier
